Vaccine Detail

attenuated B. melitensis vaccine M5-90
Vaccine Information
  • Vaccine Name: attenuated B. melitensis vaccine M5-90
  • Target Pathogen: Brucella spp.
  • Target Disease: Brucellosis
  • Vaccine Ontology ID: VO_0009616
  • Type: Live attenuated vaccine
  • Status: Research
  • Host Species for Licensed Use: Sheep
  • Antigen: BP26; OMP31
  • Preparation: Live attenuated vaccine based on Brucella melitensis strain M5-90. (Wang et al, 2014a)
  • Description: The attenuated Brucella melitensis vaccine M5-90 is currently used to vaccinate animals in China. Efficacy: Specific T-cell response induced by the M5-90 vaccine was relatively weak and did not sustain long enough, possibly due to rapid activation of T-regulatory cells following vaccination. Immune response: Low levels of antibodies to BP26 and OMP31 detected; specific IFN-γ responses quantified; identification of multiple T-cell epitopes reactive in vaccinated sheep; some epitope reactivity associated with MHC-I B allele. (Wang et al, 2014a)

Sheep Response

  • Immune Response: Low levels of antibodies to BP26 and OMP31 detected; specific IFN-γ responses quantified; identification of multiple T-cell epitopes reactive in vaccinated sheep; some epitope reactivity associated with MHC-I B allele. (Wang et al, 2014a)
  • Efficacy: Specific T-cell response induced by the M5-90 vaccine was relatively weak and did not sustain long enough, possibly due to rapid activation of T-regulatory cells following vaccination. (Wang et al, 2014a)
  • Description: Evaluation of humoral and cellular immune responses to BP26 and OMP31 epitopes in vaccinated Chinese merino and Kazak sheep. (Wang et al, 2014a)
