Vaccine Detail

Brucella abortus BCSP31 DNA vaccine
Vaccine Information
  • Vaccine Name: Brucella abortus BCSP31 DNA vaccine
  • Target Pathogen: Brucella spp.
  • Target Disease: Brucellosis
  • Vaccine Ontology ID: VO_0009407
  • Type: DNA vaccine
  • Status: Research
  • Host Species as Laboratory Animal Model: rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus)
  • Antigen: BCSP31
  • Preparation: The BCSP31 gene was cloned into pTZ57 R/T vector, subcloned into pET-28a vector, expressed in E. coli BL21, and the purified protein was used for immunization. (Imtiaz et al, 2018)
  • Description: The study aimed to construct a DNA vaccine encoding the antigenic surface protein BCSP31 of Brucella abortus to control brucellosis, a highly contagious zoonotic disease with high prevalence in Pakistan. Efficacy: The vaccinated groups showed significantly higher IgG titers in a dose-dependent manner compared to control. The DNA vaccine provided a log unit protection of 3.02 against Brucella abortus challenge in rabbits. Immune response: The vaccine induced a significant specific IgG antibody response against BCSP31 antigen in vaccinated rabbits, indicating immunogenicity and potential protective immunity. (Imtiaz et al, 2018)
Host Response

Rabbit Response

  • Immune Response: The vaccine induced a significant specific IgG antibody response against BCSP31 antigen in vaccinated rabbits, indicating immunogenicity and potential protective immunity. (Imtiaz et al, 2018)
  • Efficacy: The vaccinated groups showed significantly higher IgG titers in a dose-dependent manner compared to control. The DNA vaccine provided a log unit protection of 3.02 against Brucella abortus challenge in rabbits. (Imtiaz et al, 2018)
  • Description: Immunogenic and protective efficacy was evaluated in rabbits divided into four groups; three groups received different doses (750, 1500, 3000 μg/0.2 mL) of purified protein via intraconjunctival route, and one control group received saline. IgG responses were measured weekly by indirect ELISA. (Imtiaz et al, 2018)
