Vaccine Detail

live attenuated Brucella melitensis conjunctival vaccine
Vaccine Information
  • Vaccine Name: live attenuated Brucella melitensis conjunctival vaccine
  • Target Pathogen: Brucella spp.
  • Target Disease: Brucellosis
  • Vaccine Ontology ID: VO_0009405
  • Type: Live attenuated vaccine
  • Status: Research
  • Host Species for Licensed Use: Sheep
  • Host Species as Laboratory Animal Model: Ovis aries
  • Description: The vaccine was administered as a single dose conjunctival vaccination against Brucella melitensis in sheep. Efficacy: Antibody titers increased significantly at the first month post-vaccination (p < 0.001) but began to decline by the second month; the vaccine was considered safe and effective for protecting sheep from brucellosis. Immune response: Significant increase in antibody titers at one month post-vaccination; biochemical parameters showed no significant changes in glucose, AST, ALT; total protein and ALP decreased significantly; LDH and total protein levels increased significantly after vaccination. (√áiftci et al, 2019)
Host Response

Sheep Response

  • Vaccination Protocol: Thirty sheep were vaccinated; blood samples were collected from the jugular vein over 4 months; antibody levels were measured by serum tube agglutination test; biochemical parameters including ALP, ALT, AST, LDH, glucose, total protein, and albumin were measured using a commercial autoanalyzer. (Çiftci et al, 2019)
