live attenuated Brucella suis strain 353-1 vaccine |
| Vaccine Information |
- Vaccine Name: live attenuated Brucella suis strain 353-1 vaccine
- Target Pathogen: Brucella spp.
- Target Disease: Brucellosis
- Vaccine Ontology ID: VO_0009283
- Type: Live attenuated vaccine
- Status: Research
- Host Species for Licensed Use: Pig
- Host Species as Laboratory Animal Model: Sus scrofa (domestic swine)
- Antigen: rough mutant of strain 353-1
- Preparation: Live natural rough mutant strain 353-1 administered by conjunctival or intramuscular routes at doses of 5 × 10^7 CFU or 1-2 × 10^10 CFU. (Stoffregen et al, 2013)
- Description: The study evaluated the safety, immunogenicity, and clearance of the natural rough mutant of Brucella suis strain 353-1 as a vaccine in domestic swine. Efficacy: The vaccine strain was nonpathogenic, cleared from most vaccinates by 10-12 weeks, did not cause significant tissue lesions, was phenotypically stable, and was not shed to sentinel animals. Immune response: Vaccination induced significant humoral responses, peripheral blood mononuclear cell proliferation, and interferon-gamma production compared to controls. (Stoffregen et al, 2013)
