inactivated Brucella abortus purified killed vaccine |
| Vaccine Information |
- Vaccine Name: inactivated Brucella abortus purified killed vaccine
- Target Pathogen: Brucella spp.
- Target Disease: Brucellosis
- Vaccine Ontology ID: VO_0009077
- Type: Inactivated vaccine
- Status: Research
- Host Species for Licensed Use: Human
- Host Species as Laboratory Animal Model: Mus musculus; guinea pig
- Preparation: Prepared by adding sodium dodecyl sulphate to intact cultures of virulent Brucella abortus grown in a defined medium containing erythritol; bacterial debris removed; immunogen precipitated with ethanol and redissolved in buffer. (Keppie et al, 1971)
- Description: A purified killed vaccine was developed for potential immunization of humans against brucellosis. Efficacy: The purified whole-culture vaccine immunized mice better than crude killed organisms, extracted washed organisms, or extracted culture supernatant vaccines. Immune response: The vaccine was less allergenic in infected guinea pigs and less toxic to mice compared to crude killed Brucella abortus suspensions. (Keppie et al, 1971)
