EGCG

Vaxjo ID 262
Vaccine Adjuvant Name EGCG
Alternative Names Epigallocatechin-3-gallate Green tea catechin
Adjuvant VO ID VO_0005749
Description EGCG is a polyphenolic compound from green tea with known antioxidant, virucidal, and immunomodulatory properties. It promotes antibody production, IgG subclass switching, and ADCC activity when used as a vaccine adjuvant.
Stage of Development Research
Host Species for Testing Mouse
Components Green tea catechins, especially epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), have been associated with cancer prevention and treatment.
Structure Aromatic polyphenol Contains 3-galloyl group, important for biological activity Chemical structure provided in the paper
Molecular Weight 458 Da
Appearance Light green powder (as typical for purified EGCG ≥98%)
Storage Stored in powder form Reconstituted in distilled water for use
Preparation Purchased as ≥98% purity powder Dissolved in distilled water before mixing with antigens
Dosage 70–700 µg per dose in mice Given IM or IP, three times, every 2 weeks
Function In a mouse model, the coadministration of epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) with influenza hemagglutinin (HA) antigens induced high levels of neutralizing antibodies, comparable to that induced by alum, providing complete protection against the lethal challenge. adjuvant effects were observed for all types of HA antigens, including recombinant full-length HA and HA1 globular domain, and egg-derived inactivated split influenza vaccines.
Safety Safe in mice
