Vaccine Ontology (VO) Development Team
The Vaccine Ontology (VO) Development Team currently includes the following members:
- Yongqun "Oliver" He, DVM, PhD, Associate Professor, University of Michigan Medical Center; VIOLIN and VO project PI.
Expertise: Immunology, Brucella vaccine development, and ontology development.
VO Contribution: Primary VO developer, VO project management, vaccine domain expert, and VO web development and maintenance.
- Barry Smith, PhD, Professor, University at Buffalo; NCBO Co-PI; OBO; OBI; IDO.
Expertise: Ontology expert, creation of the BFO, the top level ontology of VO.
VO Contribution: Ontology expert development and dissemination.
- Lindsay Cowell, PhD, Associate Professor, UT Southwestern Medical Center; IDO project PI.
Expertise: Infectious disease and ontology development.
VO Contribution: Close interaction with the Infectious Disease Ontology (IDO)
- Alexander Diehl, PhD, Senior Scientific Curator, University at Buffalo, Previously at The Jackson Laboratory; Scientific curation of Mouse Genome Informatics and Gene Ontology (GO).
Expertise: Immunology and ontology development.
VO Contribution: interaction of VO with the Gene Ontology (GO).
- Harry Mobley, PhD, Professor, University of Michigan Medical School.
Expertise: E. coli vaccine research and development, vaccine domain expert.
VO Contribution: Vaccine domain expert.
- Bjoern Peters, PhD, Professor, La Jolla Institute for Allergy & Immunology; OBI, OBO.
Expertise: Epitope / immunology, ontology development.
VO Contribution: integration of VO into OBI and the epitope / immunology related modeling.
- Alan Ruttenberg, MS, Science Commons; An active participant in W3C Semantic Web activities; a chair of the OWL Working Group specifying OWL 2; a coordinating editor of the OBO Foundry; OBI.
Expertise: OWL, Semantic Web, ontology development.
VO Contribution: technical support on VO development.
- Richard H. Scheuermann, PhD, Director of Informatics, Director of J. Craig Venter Institute (JCVI)’s La Jolla Campus and an adjunct professor of pathology at U.C. San Diego.
Expertise: Immunology, influenza virus research, ontology development.
VO Contribution: integration of VO into OBI and Influenza Ontology.
- Melanie Courtot, Metadata Standards Coordinator, Archival Infrastructure and Technology Team, European Bioinformatics Institute (EBI), previously Bioinformatician,
BC Cancer Research Centre (BCCRC), Vancouver, Canada; OBI
Expertise: Ontology development.
VO Contribution: Use and improve VO for Canadian Flu Pandemic Preparedness network.
- Allen Xiang, MS, Software developer and bioinformatician, University of Michigan Medical School; VIOLIN software developer and manager during 2007-2012.
Expertise: Software development, database administration.
VO Contribution: VO-related software development such as the VO Browser development, data parsing, VO-based literature mining tool development.
- Brian Athey, PhD, The Michael Savageau Professor and founding Chair of the Department of Computational Medicine and Bioinformatics in the University of Michigan Medical School and co-director of the Michigan Institute for Data Science (MIDAS).
Expertise: Bioinformatics, machine learning, pharmacovigilance.
VO Contribution: VO development guidance, vaccine-induced cell response study, and vaccine safety.
