Components |
Purified extract from the bark of the South American tree Quillaja saponaria Molina (Vogel and Powell, 1995). |
Function |
Quil-A is used in veterinary vaccines and for production of ISCOMs. It induces both humoral and cell-mediated responses (Vogel and Powell, 1995). |
Safety |
Quil-A is highly irritating to mucosa, so inhalation and eye contact with Quil-A is to be avoided. Quil-A contains hemolysing saponins. Quil-A is not used in human trials because of overt toxicity. It is, however, used extensively in veterinary vaccines (Vogel and Powell, 1995). |
